WELCOME

The downtown area of Carrollton, Georgia, has a very rich and interesting history. A cross section of this history has been gathered from many different sources and recreated in this site in an attempt to portray what this area was like from the late eighteen hundreds until its present state today. This site was created as an Eagle Scout service project by Reeve Ingle to benefit the city of Carrollton as well as those who are curious about this downtown area's historic past. The area currently involved includes all of the buildings in Adamson Square continuing out the four side streets: Newnan, Rome, Alabama, and Bradley, out to First Baptist Church, Heavy Metal Gym, Maple Street, and Carrollton City Hall respectively.

This site includes over 110 historic pictures of the Carrollton downtown area, many current pictures, current building and business information, and a detailed history of businesses that have been in this area. This information has been gleaned from a variety of sources, ranging from city business directories and library searches to interviews with older Carrollton citizens. In no way is this information exhaustive, however, it does provide a solid background to build upon and add to.

The information and pictures are organized by building location, and can be accessed by current business name in the bottom left scroll menu or through the map of the area, which appears by clicking on the square map to the right or by clicking on the quadrant names in the top navigation bar. Each individual location has current information, history, and a list of thumbnail pictures which link to larger pictures with information about the picture.

Hundreds of hours have been put in by volunteers, friends, and other Boy Scouts to make this web site interesting as well as fact-filled. A special thanks is given to all of those who unselfishly donated time, money, and supplies to make this project a reality. Feel free to contact Reeve Ingle if you have any comments, suggestions, or additional information. Have fun looking through the interesting history of Carrollton's downtown area!
